The following is part of a transcript from a podcast interview between WisdomWomen Founder, Michelle Stransky, and her long-time teacher, Shakti Malan, who passed away on July 18, 2017. This post is part of a tribute series to her and her contributions to WisdomWomen.
Michelle: Several years ago I asked you to be an advisor for WisdomWomen. I wanted your support but felt bad because I couldn’t pay you. I told you that I hoped that someday I could pay you back. I remember you said, “Michelle, you need to get this – we as women need to get this – it’s not all about the money. When we’re called to do something, as I am to support you and WisdomWomen, it’s about more than the money.” I also want to recognize that as women the focus has been more about how we place monetary value on the work we do so that we are not taken advantage of in our society. I feel that what you said and what WW is asking is a stretch beyond that. Would you talk more about that?
Shakti: The first important thing to note is that money is completely neutral – it’s the manifestation of energy. Our association with money is that it is inter-mingled with a certain idea of power. There are people with power and money and people without. It is a system inherently based on shortage, which creates so much stress and panic around money.
However, we can go back to the fact that money is neutral energy, and then look at the feminine principle. The feminine principle is the principle of creativity. She is the one who births the world. Shakti is the word for the Feminine and the word for power in Sanskrit. It is the movement of life force itself. One could say that money is absolutely an expression of The Feminine. In its essence, when we are in service to the Feminine, we have access to an unlimited flow of energy, which can express as money. But, we need to learn how to work with that. We’re not going to get it if we try to do so in the old model of fighting to get what we deserve. That way will not work.
In every step that I take that involves money, especially when it involves receiving money, I need to be so integrous to know what my agenda is. The principle is this: I move in life in the way that I am called by my deepest passion and by love – that is why I do what I do. Then, I absolutely trust that money follows as part of that. And, I put in place structures that make that viable and make that work. Sometimes we don’t know what those structures are yet.
If you play by the rules of the old system with money, where we believe that money is this thing on its own and that it becomes a God that you have to obey, you have to step out of the center of your own current. You have lost something if you move out of the clarity of your own direction, because money is demanding something else. I think the learning for us is to live in the 4th dimension, where love is the power. And, from that place, discover how money follows our intention. Then, we discover the degree of power that we actually have.
A nice exercise I recommend for everyone to do is write down 200 reasons why it would be good to have unlimited amounts of money. The exercise will confront you around all your un-limiting beliefs around money. It will clear the slate so you can be more open and neutral about the energy of money flowing into and out of your life.
Michelle: Reflecting that back – when we surrender into our passion and our love and our service to the Feminine at this time, that that will flow back to us in many ways and one of those could be money and to surrender to that.
Shakti: That surrender is a process of refinement. I’m now tracking the shadow of what I said. We can have an idea that surrendering to the Feminine means that I’m going to lie on my couch and dream about a better world and get really upset at all the men because they’re not making it happen. It’s a fine tuning where you are always tracking yourself to see the way in which your mind might be creating an idea of what your real calling is, and then dropping deeper and deeper. We can’t always assume that we’re on the right track. Sometimes the money has an idea, but something in the emotional body feels it is not quite right.
I remember in the Council that we said to you that you need to take care of yourself. It’s not good enough for you to be putting your money and resources into WW. Your person needs to feel safe and what do you need to create that safety for you financially? That was coming from a gut sense.
